What Ithmid Is
Ithmid (إثمد) is the traditional Arabic name for a specific natural stone that is ground into fine powder and worn as kohl. Heritage sources distinguish it from other, cheaper materials also used to darken the eyes — which is why the name carries weight.
Because “ithmid” is prestigious, the word is used loosely in many markets. Ours is the named material, prepared traditionally.

Traditional Preparation
The stone is ground repeatedly until it becomes an extremely fine powder, then sifted. Fineness is the mark of skill — a coarse powder is considered poorly made. The powder is finished with rose water and Zamzam water, a step tied to cultural and spiritual significance.
How to Apply
- Start with clean, dry hands and a clean applicator stick (mirwad).
- Dip the tip lightly into the powder — a small amount is enough.
- Draw gently along the outer lash line for a defined line.
- For a softer modern look, apply a thinner line and blend lightly.
- Wipe the applicator clean and close the container after use.
Traditional kohl is a powder, not a pencil or cream. It defines rather than coats, and is applied in small quantities.
Ingredients
Natural ithmid stone, finely milled, prepared with Zamzam water and rose water. No synthetic pigments, waxes, binders, or fragrance.
Safety and Responsible Use
“Kohl” is a broad, unregulated category worldwide, and health authorities in several countries have issued consumer warnings after finding heavy metals in some unlabelled imported kohl products. This is why sourcing and transparency matter in this category, and why we state clearly what this product is and how it is prepared.
- External cosmetic use only — never apply inside the eye
- Always use a clean applicator; never share your kohl or applicator
- Do not use on irritated, broken, or infected skin, or after eye surgery
- Remove before sleeping; keep the container sealed and dry
- Discontinue immediately if redness, stinging, watering, or discomfort occurs
- Not intended for children. Do not apply to infants or young children
- If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, wear contact lenses, or have any eye condition, consult a qualified professional before use
Seek advice from a qualified eye-care professional if you experience persistent eye symptoms.
